A&G Mercury Trailers include Tilt, Caster, Single Fifth Wheel, Double Fifth Wheel, Front Knuckle and Chain Steer Models.
Mercury Material Transport Trailers are manufactured to provide years of reliable service. Along with standard models available, our trailers can also be designed to meet your special needs.
All trailers are engineered using Solid Modeling. The design is proven using a computer tracking program. We know how they will perform before manufacturing begins. During fabrication, close attention is given to fit and finish. Before shipment, we test the trailers for tracking and stability on our test track. Efficiency is also why every Mercury trailer features field proven, heavy-duty construction.
better lateral stability than fifth wheel steering or four wheel steering
A caster steer trailer has castering wheels on the front of the trailer and has better lateral stability than fifth wheel steering or four wheel steering. The lateral stability of a caster steer trailer is comparable to a knuckle steer trailer. Caster steer trailers track better than fifth wheel steer but not as good as four wheel steer. Couplers are generally used on front and rear.
best tracking attributes, but is the weakest in lateral stability
A four wheel steer trailer pivots the front and rear axles through a single pivot point on each axle Due to the double pivot point design, the standard four wheel steer trailer has the best tracking attributes, but is the weakest in lateral stability. Therefore, if a wide trailer deck is required, consideration should be given to caster steer or knuckle steer.
better lateral stability when compared to a four wheel steer trailer
A fifth wheel steer trailer pivots the front axle through a single central mounting point, thus giving fifth wheel steering better lateral stability when compared to a four wheel steer trailer but less lateral stability than a caster steer and a knuckle steer trailer. The fifth wheel steer trailer does not track as well as the caster steer and four wheel steer. Couplers are generally on rear only.
Excellent lateral stability
A knuckle steer trailer has the pivot points very near the wheels, similar to an automotive type axle. This allows the trailer to have excellent lateral stability attributes as well as low deck height characteristics. A knuckle steer trailer can be configured as a four wheel steer system which make it superior in both tracking and lateral stability than any other trailer design.
